Did you know research shows that only a few factors that will cause your caravan to be targeted by thieves. First is where the caravan is located and the security devices the caravan has in place. Second is of course how desirable your caravan is we have noticed that twin wheels are more at risk. The last factor is how long it would take to hitch up. Of course we have 10 great tips to stop your caravan becoming a target.
Very simply don't leave any documents in your caravan, If a thief gets hold of this then he can use this to prove ownership. Always place documents in your house in a safe place. Write down these numbers and keep them in your purse or wallet incase the caravan gets stolen whilst on holiday
If you park your caravan in the driveway, park with the A-frame away from the road. Any thief will have to manhandle the caravan from your drive. Usually this is too much bother and they would have to get into your drive to check if the caravan has a hitch lock.
Write the cris numbers on any raw wood surfaces with a permanent marker. This is very hard to disguise, even if painted or sanded out. If the caravan gets stolen this will be easy recognised. Add your post code under a draw is another good tip.
Remove all the soft furnishings when your caravan is not in use. This would cost hundreds to replace and will deter any thief. Its also handy for keeping the interior fresh and stopping that musty smell of a unaired caravan
If you have bought a new wheel clamp don't chuck away the old one. Use it on the other
Get out your camera and take photos of all the unique marks and faults (like a cup
mark in a certain place or a scrape/dent) Give this evidence to the police if your caravan is stolen. Of course don't store this in the caravan ( its amazing how many people have done in the past )
wheel it might not stop the thieves but it will slow them down. Don't keep your keys on tables or hall stands in your home near the front door. Thefts often use fishing rods to hook owners keys.
If you have a wheel clamp then cover it with a plastic sack, this will put thieves off as they don't know what kind of wheel clamp is being used. Again one thing a thief does not want to be doing is spending time checking out your caravan.
Empty the caravan and leave all cupboards and blinds open. Showing nothing on show
will stop thefts breaking in. Caravans with shut blinds are a target for items being robbed. The thieves will just think what are they hiding ? even if there is nothing in the caravan the damages caused could be hundreds.
Once more writing the cris numbers  in locations only you know could be the simple
thing of your caravan being recovered if stolen. Use a permanent marker to write the cris number under the floor, chassis, inside of the locker and on the steady legs police will notice these places.
Did you know one of the most common time for your caravan to be stolen is in a service station. Never leave your caravan unattended for any amount of time as it will only take seconds to unhitch and re-hitch to their vehicle.
